Pakistan Seeks New Trade Avenues at 137th Canton Fair

A 14-member trade delegation from the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), led by Vice President Nasir Mehmood Chaudhry, is representing Pakistan at the third phase of the 137th China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair), taking place in Guangzhou from May 1 to May 5.

The delegation’s participation marks a significant step in Pakistan’s efforts to deepen economic cooperation with China and explore new trade and technology collaboration opportunities, particularly in the consumer goods sector.

“This visit comes at a crucial time as Pakistan seeks to diversify its import sources and identify prospects for technology transfer and joint ventures with Chinese manufacturers,” said Chaudhry, as quoted by Gwadar Pro.

The Canton Fair, which runs from April 15 to May 5, has seen record-breaking international engagement. Over 220,000 overseas buyers from 219 countries and regions attended the first two phases, which highlighted advanced manufacturing and home furnishings.

The ongoing third phase spans an impressive 515,000 square meters, showcasing 24,560 booths from 12,043 enterprises. Themed “Better Life,” this phase focuses on lifestyle and consumer goods, including toys, maternity and childcare products, fashion, home textiles, stationery, and wellness items.

Industry analysts note growing innovation in specialized areas such as eco-friendly infant goods, smart home textiles, and tech-integrated leisure products—segments that hold strong potential for Pakistani businesses. The fair’s digital platform has further widened its global footprint, with nearly 890,000 products uploaded by April 24, allowing continued engagement with buyers worldwide.
