Pakistan and China are set to give “practical shape” to CPEC Phase-II as Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal heads to Beijing for the 14th Joint Coordination Committee meeting on September 26. He said the session will finalise the strategy for implementing the 2025–29 Action Plan, focusing on an agricultural revolution, green energy, modern technology and special economic zones. Highlighting $33 billion worth of completed projects under Phase-I, Iqbal called China “Pakistan’s most reliable friend” and stressed that Phase-II will create jobs, boost exports, and transform Pakistan into an export-driven economy. He added that aligning CPEC 2.0 with Pakistan’s ‘Uraan’ framework will usher in a new era of growth and prosperity. With China importing $2 trillion annually, Iqbal underlined that Pakistan has a major opportunity to expand its $3 billion export share in the Chinese market. He also pointed out that projects like motorways, Gwadar Port, and energy plants have already connected Pakistan’s economy to new avenues of trade, and Phase-II will focus on innovation-driven development. The minister expressed confidence that the second phase will not only uplift key sectors but also ensure sustainable regional integration and long-term economic stability for Pakistan.
