Pakistan, China Deepen Strategic, Economic, and Security Ties
During his ongoing 10-day visit to China, President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to its “all-weather” partnership with Beijing, calling China a vital strategic ally and investment partner. In a key meeting with Xinjiang’s Communist Party Secretary Chen Xiaojiang in Urumqi, Zardari pledged enhanced cooperation in counterterrorism, agriculture, technology, mining, and industry. He invited Xinjiang residents to explore Pakistan’s scenic north, especially Gilgit-Baltistan’s Special Economic Zones, to boost cultural and economic ties. Multiple MoUs were signed this week, further cementing cooperation in agriculture, environment, and mass transit—marking another leap forward in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
Both sides emphasized strengthening government-to-government and business-to-business relations. With bilateral trade exceeding $25 billion, officials underscored the need for joint efforts to secure Chinese investments and personnel amid rising regional threats.
